Character Concepts, pt 1
0 Comments Published by Richard April 9th, 2007 in Rambling, Sketches, WebcomicI’m currently working on a new comic, which I haven’t named or anything yet. Though, I have started on the important stuff, such as character designs, as well as planning out the actual character personalities and histories and the first story arc. I might as well show everyone what’s going on here anyway.
I’ve got other pages to do with the character as well, though I don’t really want to scan those as they have most of my notes on them, and I don’t want to give away too much of the story in my head until it’s drawn and posted. All I can say is that I’m worried, with some of the story aspects I’ve got planned, I’m worried that it could be considered to be very like one or two other webcomics, though I’m hoping I can get past that and write a truly original story.
So, my friend Keffy (who writes and draws the delightfully weird webcomic Moralicide) posted a rant today about Nazis. He’s complaining about how many writers will use Hitler, if not some generic Nazis, as the antagonists of many novels, films, and video games. I’d just like to take a few moments to explain my opinion on the reasoning for this, in my own, perfectly honest, opinion. Continue reading ‘OMG NAZIS!!!!1!!’
So, if you’ve actually been checking the site or anything, you’ll probably notice that the design keeps continuously changing around. This is just new-blog decision making, as I attempted to work out the kind of theme I wanted to use while at the same time realising that I suck a heap at PHP/CSS/life.
This time, however, I downloaded the K2 theme, and started raping it for my own means. It’s really good to screw with, as it’s got all the flashy bells and whistles any blog writer could wish for. Plus, it’s REALLY FREAKING EASY to set up another theme USING the theme, due to its use of kinda sub-theme-y sort of things.
Add that to the fact that I’ve got a new local web design setup, where I can test new code and designs on my own machine, rather than having to upload it to the server to see if it’s broken (thanks to the guys who made XAMPP) I’m now a mean green designing machine. Now, once I’ve got all this crap finished with, I’m gonna have to get started on a new site for the new webcomic I’m working on. That’ll be a lot of fun
I got out my sketchpad and a pencil and did a few little doodles. I think somehow I had an HB lead in my pencil this time, instead of the 2b I normally use, which affected my lines a little bit. Anyway, each of these sketches was done really quite quickly.
I don’t know where the first one came from. I think I may have had a little bit of reference from a poster on the other side of the room, though it was more of a doodle than anything. Took about 10 minutes to draw, and then I scanned it crooked. I’m an idiot. I’m really not happy with the mouth, but it probably could have been far worse
The second was done with fairly heavy lines, and not much in the way of reference, so it’s kinda crap. Still, I wanted to draw it since I’m such huge fans of the two of them, and I can’t wait to be able to play this game. (If you don’t know who they are, you need to read more webcomics)
You may have come here today, following a random link. Maybe you have used StumbleUpon to get here? Maybe you have actually been looking at this page for a little while, getting increasingly annoyed that the webcomic that was here until recently has not updated in months.
Obviously you’ve noticed that there’s a blog here now. Yep, just a blog like so many other sites around. There’s no comics (yet), and at the time of writing, nothing but a default theme and a hello world entry. Later on, however, I plan to update this everyday with sketches, artwork, writings, and maybe even a little journal comic in the vein of Malfunction Junction.
So, obviously this is going to be just a personal site, does this mean that I’m out of the webcomic game for good? Nope. I’m currently working on designs, story arcs, and writing strips, as well as getting basic sketches down, for a new project, that will go up on a completely new domain. As for the old Infinite Stupidity strips, one day I’ll get around to uploading them onto a new site, or may even put them up on this site, one at a time, with a little commentary on it. The good thing about the digital age is that nothing dies forever.
Thank you, and I hope to see you return.
